Recording Studio with a Vocal Isolation Booth

December 10, 2008 – 7:43 am
OK so I have been a super slacker when it comes to updating the blog lately.  I did however launch a new blog for my Hip Hop crew: The MOB Crew. So as you may already assume I have spent a bunch of time with these fellas recording and such.  One of the projects we undertook was building a Vocal Isolation Booth. For those of you who are not exactly sure what a booth does or is used for, let me explain. When recording (especially with a higher quality microphone) you're going to pick up all of the sound that fills the room. Well when you pack 2 to 4 dudes in a room who are all drinking and feeding off each others energy that adds a lot of extra sound. To combat this it is desirable to isolate the performer and microphone from all other sounds. While not a ...

Busy weekends!

August 18, 2008 – 6:33 am
For one of the first times all year we had a weekend with zero plans. This is really odd for our family, so we take advantage of these weekends as much as possible. These usually end up being great opportunities to recharge the batteries. Well I decided that I would use this time to resurface my blacktop driveway. For those that have never done anything like this here is what all is required: 1. Clean the surface - This is usually a combination of removing all weeds that may be peaking up from the cracks, removing any debris (leaves, sticks, etc.), and removing any grease or oil that may be on the surface. This step actually took the longest, about 3 hours total. 2. Fill the cracks - There are two types of filler I use; a patch kit (looks like little pebbles covered in tar) and blacktop ...

Tenny the slacker

July 22, 2008 – 8:37 pm
sometimes having a blog makes me feel like a total online slacker.  It is like a constant reminder of how busy real life can be.  Needless to say I have had a lot going on since my last post.  I finished a term in school (woot another A), I am now in a new term (a kinda fun Shakespeare class), I went on a family cruise (with the in-laws), and I have been helping my sister's family move into their new house.  I have also been busy with a side project and still have been making some music.  Here is my newest tunage: Documents. Sorry for those who are checking in from time to time that I haven't been posting more....

Just checking in…

June 12, 2008 – 7:43 pm
All right I have all kinds of fun updates... For starters I got a couple of new songs I have been working on and surprise surprise I am singing again in them. I have actually had a bunch of fun singing on these tracks so don't be surprised if you see that a lot more in the future. Anyways here are the two new songs that I added. New Music: Consequences - This smooth rolling song just came to me over the course of a couple of hours. I actually wrote tons of lyrics but really enjoyed it more when I picked a few of my favorite lyrics and just repeated them a few times. I hope you enjoy. Sometimes simple is better - I made this song in a night (minus the singing) and the next day I was playing around with some vocals and settled on toying ...

I officially hate Nintendo!!!

May 28, 2008 – 5:51 pm
I have officially changed my opinion of Nintendo; I officially hate them. At first I was a huge fan. I mean Nintendo really defined my coming of age with home gaming. More importantly they defined my social gaming life. I think I need to qualify this statement a little and give a history of gaming life: It all started with my Atari 2600. It was cool and all but I was very young when we got it (remember now I was born in 1978). I like going back now and playing an Atari emulator and appreciate the impact Atari had on the industry, but really its impact on my gaming career is minimal. My second gaming system was our Apple II. Sure laugh and tell me that the Apple II isn't a gaming system, but I'll tell you what my brothers and I used to get in straight up fights to ...

New mini-album release: Pickles and Oranges

May 22, 2008 – 9:52 pm
I have decided to do a 6 song mini-album release. I have been holding on to a few songs for a couple weeks because I didn't know what direction I wanted to go with them. Tonight I put the finishing touches on most of them. I decided to release them as a group, but you'll also find them on my standard music player as well. Without further ado this is the latest solo project from Jason Tennyson - Pickles and Oranges.

The Ghetto Projector

May 21, 2008 – 6:56 am
So I finally have myself my own theater in a basement. All of this was accomplished for less then $100 (what can I say, I'm cheap). I know some of you may ask how is that possible, so let me explain. For starters I have been a casual observer of the DIY projector builders movement for many years now. My primary source of information has come from the LumenLab user forums (http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/). My problem was that every time I priced out many of the totally kick ass builds shown on LL it ended up being several hundred dollars (usually in the $300 to $600 range). I also feared pissing money away by breaking something. So all of this interest got me thinking would it be possible to build this entire projector for less then $100?? That way if I break ...

A great weekend

May 5, 2008 – 5:53 am
I just thought I would share that I had a great weekend. First it started with purchasing a Canon Digital Rebel XTi for my wife for her upcoming birthday. Special thanks goes out to Matt Apps for his purchasing assistance and camera recommendations. Now I suck at waiting when it comes to gifts, so I did give the camera to her this weekend (3 weeks before her actual birthday), however I hate seeing good opportunities go to waste which I'll get to in a minute. Anyways I was glad I gave it to her early, here are her first series of pictures with the new camera! On Saturday I went fishing with my dad and my son (Gabe). It was nice to have three generations enjoying time together and I have a feeling we'll be doing this again soon. The unfortunate part is that the weather turned on ...
