Busy weekends!

August 18, 2008 – 6:33 am

For one of the first times all year we had a weekend with zero plans. This is really odd for our family, so we take advantage of these weekends as much as possible. These usually end up being great opportunities to recharge the batteries.

Well I decided that I would use this time to resurface my blacktop driveway. For those that have never done anything like this here is what all is required:

1. Clean the surface – This is usually a combination of removing all weeds that may be peaking up from the cracks, removing any debris (leaves, sticks, etc.), and removing any grease or oil that may be on the surface. This step actually took the longest, about 3 hours total.

2. Fill the cracks – There are two types of filler I use; a patch kit (looks like little pebbles covered in tar) and blacktop filler (which is dark goop that has the same consistency of honey). This only took about 30 minutes.

3. Sealer – This is what you see me doing in the pictures below. I ended up using 6 buckets worth this year. I spent about 2 hours here, so my grand total time spent was just under 6 hours. Here are some pictures and action shots!

I also spent some time meeting with the MOB Crew (my hip-hop group). These guys crack me up, and we have a lot of fun laying down some tracks! If you have any interest in checking out some of our tracks click the MOB Crew link at the top of the page. Just a warning this stuff is pretty much all R rated… so listen with caution!
